Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

Dear MargaretRDonald

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Hi @Kholoudsaa:. Like most of the wikidata enthusiasts I know, I have enough wikidata work to last several lifetimes and imagine I would be immensely irritated by suggestions which lack coherency and mean that I work inefficiently. I currently have at least four wikidata projects on the go, each of which has its own set of demands, and workflow. At the moment your proposal seems insufficiently well thought out for me to be in the least attracted. Nor have I any desire to waste my time answering (possibly ill-thought-out) survey questions, the answers to which will be probably be misinterpreted, when they are free form. You are asking me to waste my precious time. Regards, MargaretRDonald (talk) 20:08, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I've send you the reply with some request through email in past week. Did you had opportunity to read my response?

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Thank you @*Youngjin:. Just received and very much looking forward to presenting at your conference. (Am still working on Korean wikidata) MargaretRDonald (talk) 11:56, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

*Youngjin (talkcontribs)

Recieved, I will give some information by Monday.

*Youngjin (talkcontribs)

I provided additional information via email, just wonder did you received it, and/or sent any response. I just want to confirm about it because of pervious email glitch.

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Safely received. Thanks for this @*Youngjin: Just sent you another email via your Korean username. MargaretRDonald (talk) 12:32, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Hi @*Youngjin:. I am hoping that you might copy this set of queries to perhaps a Korean wikipedia project page as Wikidata project perhaps (& with corrected Korean text & without the English text) Each query needs to be run, but these are my primary tools for updating Korean wikidata. (Could you confirm receipt of this note?) MargaretRDonald (talk) 22:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

I have now got the talk down to 10 minutes and 34 seconds. I am not sure how comprhensible it is or whether it is likely to be of any interest. I sent an earlier email to you sharing my personal email and am hoping you might do the same. This wouold permit me to upload my mp4 file to google so that you can comment...Regards, 01:05, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

I wanted to make exactly the same comment to someone (hadn't spotted that the guilty party was indeed me). Yesterday I rescued at least two papers wrongly attributed to Roger B. Manning and had planned to spend this morning rescuing such wrong attributions... MargaretRDonald (talk) 18:57, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

I think I have now fixed them all. MargaretRDonald (talk) 19:22, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. MargaretRDonald (talk) 19:27, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Margaret! I saw that you recently edited the Babel user information userboxes on your user page here at Wikidata and wanted to make you aware that there is also a Template:User Wikispecies userbox available, if you want to use it. In either case, many thanks for the close to 2,600 contributions that you've made to Wikispecies so far!

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Thanks @Tommy Kronkvist:. I have now added the template. (I was editing the languages because I wanted to use Google translate for some wikidata taxon properties.) MargaretRDonald (talk) 10:10, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Then Cite Q has a problem, perhaps the developers of that tool can help. I'm not a fan of the idea that we delete data in Wikidata so an external tool can work - although I'm pretty sure those words will come back to haunt me ;)

It turned out to be an error in one of the Wikimedia modules involved. The problem has now been resolved.

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Thanks, Tommy. Great to see that using all the bells & whistles tests the software and so we get fantastic improvement. So thank you @Rdmpage: for reverting my removal of the archived pdf & thanks Tommy for sorting it out. MargaretRDonald (talk) 06:52, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Articles in Entomologische Mitteilungen assigned to wrong journal

Rdmpage (talkcontribs)

Hi Margaret, I'm hoping you can check a few articles that you've created for Vorläufige Mitteilung über die wissenschaftlichen Ergebnisse meines Europa-Urlaubes. (Q113126205). I've looked at a few and they were actually published in Entomologische Mitteilungen (Q51469060). You can see this from the name of the PDF link. An example is Ein neues Blattiden-Genus aus Assam (Blattoidea). (Q113510200), which I've edited to link to the correct journal. It would be great if you could check the rest, there's a list here: http://alec-demo.herokuapp.com/Q21385067 Once that's done I could add the whole journal.

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

@Rdmpage: Thank you for that. I hope I have managed to catch them all (7). Adding the whole journal would be fantastic. MargaretRDonald (talk) 21:32, 19 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Margaret, I've undone a couple of edits where you linked an article to Q21386066 when the article was already linked to Q21385699. There are at least three journals called "Opuscula zoologica" so we need to be careful in assigning articles based just on journal name. The articles affected are Q98679825 Q98679604 Q98679802 Q98679660 Q98679602. I'm going to add more articles to Q21386066 when I get the chance, which may help reduce confusion between the different journals.

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Thank you @Rdmpage: (And of course I have no memory of how or when I achieved that, so thank you for fixing it). MargaretRDonald (talk) 05:46, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for disambiguating authors here. Not sure you already know it but a tool that assists with that is the Author Disambiguator.

MargaretRDonald (talkcontribs)

Thanks @Daniel Mietchen:. Yes I use it all the time and I love it. And I love the amazing titles which give a rough notion of what an author is working on. Great tool & thanks for it. MargaretRDonald (talk) 23:54, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
