Update of items in the UNESCO Lists

Items for different national and sub-national level registers

These may represent the national inventory or a Wikipedia article on all kinds of ICH in the given country, belonging to the UNESCO Lists, the National Inventory and other. The items for inventories must be separated from other types of articles.

List of items from the Austrian national inventory

The import was halted at 70%, and again on retry. Some of the items have not been imported, and items with several areas or origin have only one of them added.

Researching existing items in Wikipedia

• TABernacle list for researching existing category members of Category:Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of Austria (Q8977058) of the German Wikipedia.
• TABernacle list for a query that displays the QIDs from any Wikipedia page. In this case I copied the relevant part of a list article to a user page and referenced that.

Import structure

• instance of (P31) using the classes in the inventory, values: performing arts (Q184485), custom (Q10665028), oral tradition (Q209815), traditional craft (Q37736399) and traditional knowledge (Q1428168). These classes can be further refined for further ICH imports.
• description using the original description in the form "Umgang mit der Natur in ganz Österreich, aufgenommen 2010" or "Knowledge concerning nature and the universe throughout Austria, inscribed 2010". Plurals will be converted to singular and existing descriptions will not be overwritten.

• indigenous to (P2341) : The Austrian state of the designation // should this property be different?

Import of Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

• Not adding descriptions. They require a lot of manual work and can be done afterwards manually based on intros on the ICH site. (Maybe an automated summary?)
• Not adding country (P17) as qualifier for intangible cultural heritage status (P3259) because of complexities in making the statement in OpenRefine. Trying to add it afterwards.
• Using property country of origin (P495) to state the countries.
• Not adding any new instance of (P31)
• Added the years of the original proclamations as intangible cultural heritage status (P3259) : Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (Q877988)

Import of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding

• See if locations can be changed from located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) and location (P276) to for example indigenous to (P2341). Some consensus for this would be useful.

• 

  Remove from intangible cultural heritage status (P3259) values: Intangible Cultural Heritage (Q84036549), UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists (Q4435332), intangible cultural heritage (Q59544).
• The goal is to use the list items as designation values. Proper values have been assigned to all added/updated items. They have not yet been hierarchically linked to the accepted tree of values.
• Do not remove values representing national lists, as they may coexist.
• Add more fitting values for instance of (P31). See that the new values are subclass of (P279) craft (Q2207288), party (Q200538), tradition (Q82821), activity (Q1914636), rite (Q628455), musical work (Q2188189), song (Q7366), music tradition (Q60733114), festival (Q132241), theatrical genre (Q7777573), food (Q2095), musical instrument (Q34379) based on 'type constraint' in intangible cultural heritage status (P3259). You can add the hierarchy if it is missing.
• The nomination forms on Unesco pages have information that can be used for properties such as indigenous to (P2341) or native label (P1705).

Import of good safeguarding practices

• Related traditions or other items have been added in the property facet of (P1269). Use the table to add translations or move the content from the property facet of (P1269) to a better suited property.
