Are people using Wikidata to support crowdsourcing maintenance of directories of, e.g., organizations with specific characteristics?

I have two specific applications in mind:

  1. PeaceWorks Kansas City has a"Community Organization Directory of Peace, justice, environment, and human rights groups in the Kansas City Metro" on its website. It has not been updated since 2018 but still attracts a fair amount of traffic. That suggests it would be worth the effort to create a system that would make it easy for volunteers to maintain it.
  2. People with the Community of Reason Kansas City want to create a directory of news outlets of interest to people in the greater w:Kansas City metropolitan area.

I'd like to organize w:edit-a-thons to involve people in maintaining entries on Wikidata on organizations that concern them, which could be extracted on, e.g., a daily or monthly basis using, e.g. SPARQL queries to automatically update web pages like the PeaceWorks Kansas City has a"Community Organization Directory of Peace, justice, environment, and human rights groups in the Kansas City Metro" mentioned above.

Do you know of others who have tried something like this?

What do you think of the idea?

What do you suggest I do to make this happen?

  • In particular, what do I need to do to create the tags so something like a SPARQL query would produce what is desired with these applications?
