Motivation[edit]

We seem to add some of their contents, but it's not necessarily easy to gain an overview nor an idea of our completeness. I guess this could be seen as a subproperty of significant event (P793).

The idea is not to create a value for every official population number published, but to add general censuses. While many are done every ten years at the end (or beginning) of a decade, in some countries they are not.

To avoid overloading country items further and as we generally have demographics items, the proposal is to add it there.

Please help complete/expand the proposal (Add your motivation for this property here.) --- Jura 07:34, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

  • Why don't we just make each census event an instance of the recurring census? For example, if you look at United States census (Q1345528), then you see that it has instances for 1800 United States Census, 1810 United States Census, etc.
If we do make this property, I would change the label from "has census" to "census event" so that it is clear that is referring to the indivdual events rather than the recurring event.

  • The idea is indeed to add items about the individual census rather than the plan. The property can also be interesting for older censuses, not necessarily that frequent. First I was going to propose to use just "census", but that might have been ambiguous. I'm not entirely convinced by the word "event" in the label, but I don't mind improving the label. --- Jura 08:15, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Putting "event" in the title seems consistent with making this a subproperty of "significant event," but the labels "census" or "has census" is probably fine too. I  Support this proposal with "census event" as the label and  Weak support it otherwise. — The Erinaceous One 🦔 09:59, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Planned use" is just to indicate what the proposer somehow offers the community to do .. it doesn't mean that more can't be done. It's just that I don't want to promise more than I'd deliver. --- Jura 08:35, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not sure
    • Like Pmt, I question why to limits this property only to contemporary censuses. Also it seems like there is intent to limit this to national censuses, done by each countries own government, which are official. What about Central Park Squirrel Census (Q85751238), does this get to use the property also?
    • I agree with The-erinaceous-one, if we are to use this, then why not link to the concept of each census then make the list of individual censuses instances of that? In that way, no updating is necessary and people can add diverse variations to the main census.
