Motivation
This property should complement TED speaker ID (P2611), TED topic ID (P2612) and TED talk ID (P2613), and provide additional structured metadata for subclasses of TEDx conference (Q23058942) (see Wikidata:TED/TEDx Talks and w:List of TEDx conferences). Pinging @Pigsonthewing who will probably be interested and/or have additional information. Waldir (talk) 09:23, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

Discussion
- Comment (Note: my time as Wikimedian in Residence with TED has ended; I'm writing here in a personal capacity). The example given is not the ID for TEDxAmsterdam (Q2047885); it is the ID for a single event, to be held on 17 November 2017. I'm not sure why we need such a property - how many of these events are noatable enough for incusion in Wikidata? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:06, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm I agree with Andy. TEDx is interesting, and some of the TEDx talks are TED website worthy, but I strongly doubt we need items for all TEDx events and therefore such a property is not necessary. We don't have that many TED events, and you could say we should only include items for the ones that were hosts for the speeches on the main website. The entire archive on Youtube is not notable enough to upload in my opinion. Jane023 (talk) 22:07, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Andy Mabbett: I see what you mean -- that's the ID for the TEDxAmsterdam 2017 conference, while TEDxAmsterdam (Q2047885) represents the whole series. I believe identifying specific instances of a given TEDx conference series would be useful for cases such as TEDxSanta Cruz (Q22909293), which has 3 events in the series, or TEDxPineCrestSchool, which has 4, and many others (TEDxWarsaw (Q17148060) has 8). In the interest of properly modeling the data about the talks, it would make sense in my view to have items that are part of (P361) the top-level TEDx event series; such items would represent individual events, to which the talks would then be assigned to.
As for how many such items we would have, my plans were to synchronize the entries in some or all of the following, already existing lists / categories: w:Category:TEDx conferences, w:Template:TEDx, w:List of TEDx conferences, c:Category:TEDx, and likely others in non-English Wikipedias. Even if we restrict the events and talks to those featured in the main TED.com website, there are lots of them. --Waldir (talk) 09:03, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose I removed the ready as there are comments (including one with a "strongly doubt") that (A) the example is wrong and (B) this is not useful. The response from Waldir neither fixed the example nor quantified the usefulness ("lots" is not a number, and it's questionable whether more than a few dozen of these are notable enough to have their own wikidata item). Why isn't described at URL (P973) sufficient for now? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:54, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Not done No consensus. Micru (talk) 11:31, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- Comment I'd really like to have seen a response from Andy Mabbett and Jane023. --Waldir (talk) 09:24, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
