This category tracks the huge collections indexed in the WikiProject sum of all paintings. Huge collections are the collections that have so many paintings that the list pages have to be split up. The hard limit is more than 4000 paintings (the robot won't produce longer lists) and the soft limit somewhere around 3000 (loading becomes really slow if a lot of metadata or images are included).

The collection lists are split up by time period, for example "17th Century" or "before 1500". For some collections the list is also split up in a different way that's appropriate for that collection, for example by location, provenance or by inventory number.

Not all lists in this category have been split up yet. Generally it's not done yet because not enough date info is available yet. Paintings need to have inception (P571) or a creator (P170) with date of birth (P569) to be able to split up the lists.

See also Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Top collections for the largest collections. Every collection with over 4000 paintings should be in this category, smaller collections only if the list is split up or needs splitting up.
